Menopause and Peri-Menopause

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

Many women complain of sleep disturbances during peri-menopause and after menopause. ⠀

As we get closer to menopause, reproductive hormone levels decline because the ovaries no longer produce estrogen or progesterone. This change in hormone levels is what drives the symptoms we experience.⠀

Common complaints about poor quality sleep include difficulty falling and staying asleep, coupled with early morning and nocturnal awakenings. ⠀

- It has been noted that insomnia is more common in women than in men, with 25% of women between the ages of 50- and 64-years having sleep difficulties. Sleep difficulties are more common in post-menopausal than in pre-menopausal women, and more severe in those experiencing a surgical menopause. ⠀

Other symptoms include: ⠀

- Vaginal dryness ⠀

- Hot flushes ⠀

- Night Sweats⠀

- Mood disturbances ⠀

- Weight gain ⠀

- Slowed metabolism ⠀

So, how can naturopathic treatment assist with these symptoms of menopause? ⠀
