Functional Testing

Functional Testing ⠀

Did you know that as natural health practitioners we have access to very in depth functional testing. With more than 200 tests available through Nutripath alone (a company most of us have access to as practitioners). ⠀

Only some of these testing methods/ options include: ⠀

- Endocrine testing through blood and urine analysis⠀

- Gastrointestinal / stool testing ⠀

- Immunological⠀

- Genomic ⠀

- Metabolic ⠀

- Neurotransmitter testing ⠀

- Nutritional sensitivities ⠀

- Allergy testing ⠀

And more.. ⠀

🤨 So, how do these sorts of tests differ from the tests you may get at a GP? ⠀

Tests that are sent away for at the GP have a very broad reference range, great example of this may be:⠀

Ferritin (storage form of iron and most sensitive to assess iron deficiency) reference ranged for a GP is anywhere from 30-300 or 30-200 ng/mL, whereas functional pathology references ranges are much more thorough and specific.⠀

Generally GP references ranges are much larger to allow for the “vast majority” of the population.⠀

However, given this a your health we are talking about.. wouldn’t you want to be in an optimal range and not just a range that covers a large majority of the general public? On the other hand, Functional Ferritin ranges are 90-250 ng/mL.

This goes goes for many testing and not only Iron studies!⠀

If you have found testing through your GP has not been helpful and you’re wanting to dig deeper, contact me today for more information.⠀
