Every Time You Eat or Drink, You Are Either Feeding Disease or Fighting It

We already know that obesity causes inflammation in the body, but science has recently confirmed that it also causes changes to the brain. Recent evidence has started to dig deeper into the link between the gut microbiome with dietary- and metabolic-associated hippocampal impairment. ⠀

There are many studies to confirm that excessive consumption of saturated fat and refined carbohydrates are associated not only with the development of obesity but also with lowered cognitive function, cognitive decline, and dementia. ⠀

Furthermore, it is estimated that about one third of Alzheimer’s cases worldwide are caused by changeable risk factors such as those that are diet and lifestyle dependent. ⠀

UNSW reseach found that even a short term diet of processed and unhealthy foods can have a negative effect on ones cognitive ability with impaired memory and brain inflammation happening as soon just 1 week. ⠀

A study also conducted by researchers at Deakin University and the Australian National University suggest that older Australians with unhealthy diets have smaller Hippocampus; the region of the brain that is associated primarily with memory and mental health.⠀

Remember this: “Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it,”
